The Eleventh Day of Christmas: Dried Fruit & Nut Medley

Dried Fruit & Nut Medley

A very valuable kitchen tool duet that has made this medley possible is the apple peeler, corer and slicer along with its partner, the vegetable and fruit dryer. Once these two kitchen tools begin to work together, your dried fruit and nuts blends can be very personal choices you make in your own kitchen.

6-8 Cortland or MacIntosh apples

1 lemon

2 cups whole cranberries

2 cups candied walnuts

2 tsp cinnamon

Prepare the apples with the apple corer and place them immediately onto each layer of your vegetable and fruit dryer. Sprinkle a very small amount of the juice of one lemon followed by cinnamon for an added flavouring. Using the recommended heat of 135 degrees F. or 58 degrees C. for 8 hours.

To prepare cranberries, break skins by cooking them over medium heat for 5 minutes. Then rinse in cold water and place on plastic shelves of your dryer and dry for 6 hours.

Using candied walnuts already included in the 'First Day of Christmas' entry, blend the dried apple and cranberry and create a festive winter blend just right for the season.
